Get What You Give
Teddi (Hailey Grant’s) roommate is complaining to her that she hasn’t been helping her out. She’s trying to run for the present of the SGA against Covin Randall-who she thinks is arrogant-. Hailey reminds her that she hasn’t listened to *any* of her ideas that she really needs to come up with *something*. It’s then she smells smoke coming from outside her door and a Beta tells her the dorm is on fire. Teddi doesn’t want to leave the room without a truck of valuables of her parents (whove both died). So Hailey volunteers to stay behind and get the trunk. When she has it the door traps her inside (upstairs). Cassidy (the Beta) points out that Teddi is unconscious. Luckily two guys (Jskr and Covin) show up and are able to get the door open. Cassidy gets out with Jake, but Covin stays behind to help get Teddi out. The dorm goes up in flames The EMT is able to get Teddi out but doesn’t see Covin and Teddi come out behind her.

Hailey sees Covin and goes over to him. His leg is wrapped. She starts to feel an instant attraction to him for saving her life but then she feels slightly guilty because Teddi is mean mugging her. She knows tho that he already has her foot. A custodian dies from the fire and they throw a vigil for her later. Covin encourages the others to pitch in with the funeral cost because she didn’t have any money for a funeral. Cassidy tells Hailey they need to stick together because they know have a bond, but in time it’ll get easier.

Teddi gets mad with Hailey because she’s into Covin’s speech. She says she should have given her more advice if the speech was bad. Then she gets upset because she says she told her the speech could have had more “fire”. Teddi doesn’t speak to her to some days. Cassidy comes up to Hailey and tells her that she should consider pledging Beta and then introduces her to the other Beta’s. They know Hayden is a Beta and they think Hailey has character. It’s just her luck Teddi sees her talking to them (Teddi also wants to be a Beta) but Hailey doesn’t want to tell Teddi that she’s the one they choose. They also tell her this line will be on the level. Hayden takes her sister out excited about her being picked. Hailey just tells her she wants to check out other sororities first. She’s not even sure she wants to pledge. But Hayden says she knows she’ll make the right choice.

Of all the other sority rushes, Hailey finds that BGP is the best choice. Covin asks to meet up with her and he asks if she’ll be a part of his cabinet. Also if she’ll explore a relationship with him. She accepts both. She has an interview with the Beta’s but walks off when she sees that Teddi’s name isn’t on the list of pledges. When Teddi goes to the induction ceremony Teddi is there. The other girls are Even (a girl Teddi and Hailey saw outside getting abused by her boyfriend), Quisa, and Millie. After the ceremony, they decide that even though they don’t have to they’re going to dress alike. But at the store, Even starts to get beat up again by G-Dogg. The cops are called and they restrain him, but then they start going over the top with the beatdown. I say karma is a bitch but Hailey feels conflicted. A crowd gathers and a white man questions why Hailey’s taking up for a man that beat up her friend and pulled a gun. Millie tells Hailey she’s taped the whole thing. So they go back to the school, and along with Covin some of the students start chanting outside the police office. This gets the attention of a news station. Hailey goes up to apologize and yell at G-Dogg at the same time, but Evan goes to him. G-Dogg apologizes and says he deserves what he got for hitting her. G-Dogg apologizes to Hailey and says he was wrong and he needs to change. He says to take care of Even and he’s glad she’s in a sorority of Hailey.

After the last of the gem ceremonies, Teddi apologizes for her being mad about Covin and Even confesses that after he got out G-Dogg hit her again. So she dumped him. After the ceremony, the line President and VP get into a fight over taking the pledges to a study session with some other Beta’s. On Thanksgiving, the SGA has taken the custodian's family some food and Hailey feels bad that she hasn’t been pulling up her weight. At dinner, Creed proposes to Hayden. Hayden and her mom surprise Hailey by taking her to her induction. After she gets her letters she goes to Covin whose having a party for the SGA that night. Covin pushes away Hailey’s affections because she’s been neglecting him, She lets him know that now that pledging is over she’s with him (and wants to be with him). At their next meeting some of the Beta’s have an issue with the president (Sam) for getting in Cassidy’s face. Hailey comes up with the idea to have a Mr. Beta contest as a fundraiser. Then finds herself attracted to one of the contestants (Morgan).

During a romantic dinner prepared by Covin, she tells him she thinks they should see other people. Despite her girls telling her Morgan is just the one you screw, Hailey makes a date with him and finds him not to be a gentleman. Then the date is G-Dogg bursting up in the restaurant firing. The police are called and once again G Dogg apologizes ante tells Hailey to take care of Even as he’s handcuffed and taken away. Hailey decides Morgan is a jerk because he wouldn’t put his self out there to help the waiter who was heard. Morgan then drops the contest and some more other guys. But they all re-vote to put the swimsuit contest back in. There’s some more drama from the older chapter members who don’t lik that there’s a flyer going around with their letters on some guys naked chest (even though it says sponsored by). Hailey has it up to here and quits being chair. Teddi shows her through the custodian who died’s family how she can make a difference when she saees where they live. At a SGA food drive, Hailey hears Covin speak and realizes she wants him back. (Especailly when she sees him holding the hand of the homecoming queen). Hailey runs out in the rain and is followed by Covin. They end up going to a hotel and having sex, but afterward, she doesn’t hear from him in 5 days. When she does catch up with him he’s in his SGA office and says he’s been busy (rolling my eyes) and been gone with his Dad to sessions. He tells her he feels overwhelmed by her reaction and likes the strong Hailey better. Later her uncle tells her that 1) guys respect women more who make them wait for it and 2) they also don’t like to be sweated. If you given them their space they’ll miss you.

On the way to an emergency meeting, Hailey’s mom calls she speaks to Covin who invites her to meet his parents. In the house, are some alum that want Haiely to run for a national position, but she remains her sister ran for that position and lost. The ladies said she'll have all their support behind her. The fundraiser isn’t going well. The guys haven’t sold any tickets and plus the older members have pulled out of helping. So Hailey gets the idea to ask the alum chapter to help throw fundraisers. Hailey finds out the party is for Convin and his Dad’s birthday. When she gets there it’s clear his mother doesn’t approve and they’ve already picked out a white chick that’s going to Harvard with him to be his future. There’s some drama about what to do when the funds start coming in from the older Beta’s on whether they should be divided with the contestants. Sam wants the checks back because she didn’t think the guys earned it. As she’s already signed them. Hailey’s line sisters say they won’t be there if the checks aren’t given out. Sam gets in Hailey’s face when she learns Teddi is passing out the checks at the event. Sam is ignoring calls so they can’t talk to her but Cassidy says it’s fine. Sam and Hailey get into a heated argument and Sam calls her a bitch. She takes some of the checks back from the contestants. Later Sam and Hailey present the awards and pretend everything is cool, but Sam says it’s far from over. The event is successful. Sam’s sorra’s say they’re going to vote her out because she’s been starting fights. Hailey runs for the National VP and she gets it. She learns a lesson about giving more to BPG than what she gets.

My Thoughts: This was slow and dragged a lot! Sometimes you can’t judge a book by the cover. Sometimes you can. In this case, I kinda knew this one would just be so so. 1) Presidential campaign plots imo are just blah. Even though this one was over quick. 2. Even though BPG did things the right way this time, I still wasn’t impressed with how childish the ones who were supposed to be in charge were just as childish and immature as the ones I read about in Work What You Got They spend more time fighting and into drama than they actually do getting events planned that are supposed to be helping the community. 3). Because I’m not in a sorority all the National VP stuff really wasn’t interested in and it repeated and ended almost the exact same way as Work What You Got only Hailey won. 4) At least Covin did show some kind of leadership qualities, unlike Hayden. It was admirable that he raised the money to help the custodian's family (the one that died in the fire). I will also say that in comparison to Hayden Hailey was more about actually getting something done. Hayden didn’t really plan anything. It was the other Beta's who encouraged her to throw the party and it was her friend’s sororities that let her in on the voter registration. At least Hailey did come up with the Mr. Beta contest and she did sit in and judge the contestant's talents. So she was more a leader than her sister. She also did actually stand up for Teddi-although I do wonder about the accuracy of this part-.But still, I don’t quite agree with pressuring your sister or daughter to pledge the sorority your in. My mother is in the same sorority as the author of this book and she’s never put any ressure on me to go that way. She showed support of the one I wanted to join when I was an undergrad. Nor should you try to manipulate them by getting your alum chapter to put pressure on someone neither. Hailey to me just never showed that much excitement until way in for being a BGP and I think both her and her Hayden should have backed off her instead of trying to guilt trip her “It’s always been my dream for my baby to be a BGP!” I did think uncle WADE (someone needed to really go back and fact-check this) had some really GOOD advice. 1( Don’t sleep with guys to soon and 2 be indifferent and don’t sweat them. But I just wasn’t that into this one.
