Reading it a second time. Reiterates that the spiritual journey is about embracing the darkness, and that through this embrace we discover real love...as opposed to seeking only the light, which our Western dualistic mindset encourages, and at great expense. A short book (I would like to have kept reading)...a dark gem...

It is mostly a rehash of known information, and not enough exploration of the couple of new ideas presented. If you have not read anything on Hecate this book does provide historical information about Hecate.

This is my first indepth book about Hecate. While very informative I did feel as if the book and writing style are a little all over the place. Typically I don't mind this when it comes to fiction, but as for informational books I prefer the thoughts to be cohesive, concise and most importantly to flow. It is somewhat repetitive but not enough to annoy me. I do plan on reading this book again in the future as well as its counterpart Hecate II . Jade does pack alot of info in this book and there is no way I retained it all in one read.

I purchased this book because I knew almost nothing about Hecate and wanted to know more. There is a lot of valuable information in the book and I do intend to reread it. However, this book was poorly edited and is full of typos. There were points in my reading where I wanted to go grab some white out and a pen so that the sentences would make sense. There’s even a whole paragraph repeated at one point.

Editing issues aside - the “Hecate in Literature” section of the book was slow to read. There is a brief discussion of Hecate at the beginning of the chapter and then the author just slapped a bunch of quotes from literature in there. It’s not that I didn’t want to know about the literature she has been featured in, but I wanted a discussion on each quote used. Reading quote after quote made them all run together and they pretty much did nothing for the book as a whole. I could have skipped that entire section and not missed anything.

Three stars because my enjoyment level was brought down so much in the middle of the book until the end.

I very much enjoyed reading Jade's books on Hecate, and did so after discovering his work in Hekate Her Sacred Fires. His books are enjoyable and provides a deep insight into his particular understanding of Hecate and his highly mystical approach. Probably not for newbies, but definitely recommended!

This is an excellent book for anyone that is devoted to the goddess Hecate. It's a bit academic in its approach but I still enjoyed reading it.
