Sci-fi writer Fiona Avery's tale about Rogue. After running away from home, Rogue thought she found a new family with the X-Men. Still unable to fit in, she flees once again. Will her journey of self-discovery lead to her acceptance by the X-Men?
A re-write of Rogue's introduction in Uncanny X-Men (1963-2011) #171, this arc includes her struggle to fit-in even with her fellow mutants. Highlights include Rogue's saving-people thing and Xavier-Rogue interaction, which is rare in cannon. The art is pretty good, but the stories were sappy and predictable. I liked that this focused only on Rogue and her struggle with loneliness without any emphasis on romance. Worth a one-time read only for Rogue fans.
It’s a fine little mini, I picked the issues up out of the dollar bin and it had some great bits, like Storm’s very simple statement on Rogue, “She is alone. She needs us.” And some stuff that’s not covered in Rogue’s later group appearances that I’ve read, like the cacophony that is her mind filled with the voices of all the people she’s touched.
It does have the slight misfortune to be pretty heavily inspired by the recent at the time Fox X-Men movie so that detracts a little.
Read in single issues. Not a bad Rogue story! Wish there was more action. I'm so ready for a new solo Rogue title, though. Please make this happen, Marvel!
