During those years he was Director of Research (also Chairman) of the British UFO Research Association; a member of the Ghost Club; a member of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR); a member of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP); and active in many local research groups.

John has been at the forefront of experimental research into many unsolved mysteries both in the UK and abroad; researching and experimenting into such phenomena as ghosts, poltergeists, PK, ESP, survival of spirit, alternative healing, etc.
