I don't remember how much I loved Leonardo DiCaprio before Titanic - I was on such a Titanic high that I may have watched many of his movies after Titanic came out, greedy for all things "Jack". I'm pretty sure I already adored Romeo + Juliet, but I think I watched that movie for Clare Danes, a very accomplished actress herself. I know I repeatedly watched A Man in the Iron Mask - but that was as much for Irons, Malkovich, and Saarsgard as for DiCpario. No, my true love for Leonardo DiCaprio was born out of my love for Jack, my love for Jack and Rose to be exact. Titanic remains my very favorite movie (my perfect triple feature is The Man in the Iron Mask, Romeo + Juliet, and Titanic - which makes for a long night to be sure), and I still watch almost everything DiCaprio comes out with, because I do believe, beyond the love story and those beautiful eyes that made us all swoon and rush back to the movie theater week after week, he is a very talented actor.
I bought this book during the Titanic era, and so it only chronicles his life up to that point, but it is a picture of his early years. Speaking of pictures, it is a beautiful full-color photo book. Pictures are backed with quotes, a narrative of his life and career, and the requisite Personal Facts and Favorites lists. I know the book was created to ride the wake of the Titanic; that's why it stays on my shelf. Unfortunately it's not the best written book - the writing is repititious and in many cases seems to glean from interviews given to other publications rather than genuine research.
