"Elizabeth's Encounteres" is an exciting story of a unique couple. Fourteen year old Elizabeth is pregnant and her parents arrange for her to marry Sebastian, though he is twice her age. Sebastian restrains his yearnings for Elizabeth, because she is so young. After Elizabeth's child is born, the three migrate to the United States and settle in upper New York State. Sebastian finds work on a farm, though he really wants to return to growing grapes, as he did in Germany.
In order to obtain extra money to buy a vineyard, Sebastian enlists in a New York Infantry regiment and enters the Civil War. He does not return.
Elizabth opens a succesful bake shop, and soon expands her business to several shops. Her cousin Johan, who had helped them in their migration, assists her. He is in love with her, but she rebukes his hope for marriage. Elizabeth does however, meet a charming gentleman and becomes fixated with him.
Many of her friends warn her of the man's mysterious life, but she ignores their warnings. She is about to commit to marriage when her husband Sebastian returns from the war. He had escaped the Confederate prison where he was held, but had not returned home thinking that Elizabeth's life would be better without him. After living with another woaman in Kentucky for almost thirty years, Sebastian's return stuns all; his wife, his grown children, and her cousin.
When the suave gentleman is murdered, all become suspects. But all end well and Elizabeth and Sebastian relocate to a vineyard in the lakes region and enjoy their few remaining years.
