Tanisha Hopkins a.k.a. Tiny dreams of living the glamorous life by any means necessary. A bona fide, certified, authentic material girl in every sense of the description, Tiny is Feenin to live life fast and furious and has found the perfect man to make all her dreams a reality. But everything that glitters isn t always gold. Meeting her match, Roscoe proves to be a disaster in the making. A hustler with a dream, a scheme, and his hand in the mix of everything. Tiny quickly learns why many people not only despise Roscoe, but fear him too. As treachery, murder and mayhem collide in this masterfully penned novel, will Tiny learn that Roscoe is a force to be reckoned with before it s too late? Or will she get a shocking wake-up call that has her knocking at death s door?
Just one little taste was all it took to turn Tiny into a full-blown crackhead. She went from valedictorian to turning tricks or come what may be just to get the next hit. With the help of her best friend, Frenchy, Tiny gets cleaned up. Before she knows it, her body has filled back out and she’s once again looking like her old self. It’s this Tiny that captures the interest of Roscoe, a local hustler with baggage. Unfortunately for Tiny, he becomes her new drug of choice.
While I appreciate the author’s efforts to deliver a cautionary tale and shine light on issues such as HIV/AIDS awareness, drug addiction, abuse and homosexuality, her efforts fall short. FEENIN’ is disjointed and sorely lacks development, focus and direction. I waded through the first half of the book waiting for the story to begin. After eleven chapters of first-person narrative, it flips to third-person, only to flip back the next chapter. Several chapters later, there is another flip in narration. Again only for one chapter.
The writing is thin and very basic. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. I had no feelings for them and did not really care what happened to them. The ending is rushed and unbelievable. The epilogue reads more like an author’s note.
To its credit, FEENIN’ is a quick read, but that’s because there isn’t much to digest. I didn’t downright hate this book, but I certainly did not enjoy it. Had it not been for review, I doubt I would have completed it. With so many books saturating the industry today, FEENIN’ will quickly fall by the wayside. A sequel is ill-advised.
I feel it was an okay read. However, I felt that I got cheated a few times as being the reader. A couple of times throughout the book, the author kept the scene going right into a dream/daydream. I don’t know it that was to draw suspense but after finding out it was just a dream upset me somewhat, like “What the heck?” but not in a good way.
I’m all for sending out message awareness about HIV/AIDS, homosexuality, and all kinds of abuse but it was as if the main character kept pressing the issue upon us as if she was teaching it to us. As if the character already knew this stuff but didn’t learn from it herself. I felt like the author should have crafted this better into the story and let us be the one to understand it… The author should have showed it to the readers and not just flat out tell us!
Then in the epilogue, it was as if it was just a message from the author, which could have already been said in the author’s notes. And at the end of the book, the author apologized for lying to the readers in the beginning of the book just to get us hooked! Why talk about the cracked skull, broken ribs, and a walk that would never be forgotten if the author had already forgotten it. Honestly, I had forgotten all about it until the end when she apologized for it.
Aside from all the things that upset me about this book, I still would have to say that eventually I did enjoy the book, after near the middle when it finally took off. I would however give this author another try to see how she improved.

My my my what a good read. I am starting Still Feenin as I type. LOL. You have got to read this book. These characters are off the chain. Lots of drugs, sex, back stabbing and you name it.
I've never read anything by/from this author, but she just got herself another BIG FAN IN ME. 💯🎯💯 GREAT READ 💯🎯💯 continue on to book 2, EXCITED but NERVOUS (idk why but I am LOL 🤣🤣🤣) to see how TINY/TANISHA/SHANOAH is gonna do with her life!!!!
I read about 100+ pages. The crack pipe in the corner on every page was a constant distraction from the weird storyline. Just couldn't make it very far. Well see if part 2 is any better since I checked both out from the library.
This story touched me in a way cause I can totally relate to the day to day struggles of an addict, it touched on some real life issues from being an addict and what they go through, hiv awareness, to how addiction can tear apart any kind of relationships to making them stronger
