Twelve-year-old Simon Hall is about to discover he’s extraordinary; too bad that’s the last thing he wants to be. He just wants to fit in. Heck, he’d be happy if he could just walk home from school now and then without being taunted by other kids.
When Simon’s parents die suddenly, he moves to a bizarre small town to live with his aunt. Reinventing himself becomes his top priority, but if being the new kid in a small town isn’t hard enough, Simon discovers he has some strange powers. He’ll never fit in if things explode or levitate every time he claps his hands, so he does the only thing that seems he ignores them. Unfortunately, the more he ignores his powers, the more unpredictable they become. He needs to get control or he’ll never shed his “freak boy” status.
Good thing he meets Ana Greene. Ana has a soft spot for Edgar Allan Poe and doesn’t act like the girls back home. Though Simon would rather align himself with cooler kids, their friendship is instant and powerful. With Ana’s help, Simon starts to master his abilities for the sole purpose of never using them. That is, until the hit man who murdered his parents comes back for him. The only way Simon can save himself and everyone he loves is to embrace his new powers and to accept that when you’re extraordinary, being average just isn't an option.
