Educating a child with cancer is a book that helps children and parents of children dealing with cancer, by informing them about what their rights are in society. This book may at first sound boring, and I say it started out boring. But as you read on into this book, even though they are a bunch of stories on people’s experiences with the fight to get accommodations for their children, it give you a good feeling, as though you where there with the person and experiencing the moment with them. On the last few pages of this book, you will find a list of accommodations for a child who has or had cancer accommodations that they ARE ALLOWED to have in school as a cancer patient/survivor. As my physiologist said “We must educate teachers about this illness and what it does to children and their learning ability.”
This is a really niche book but helpful to the relevant audience.
Some topics aren’t covered in-depth and I suspect the info about radiation after effects is a little outdated. But the parent perspectives are both heartbreaking and uplifting.
