Sometimes the things that seem like a curse… Are the best gifts of all. Holly Goodwin has a special ability. All her life, she’s been able to see ghosts.
They tend to be connected to objects that were important to them in life, which makes her job – running the antique shop that her mother left her – a source of near-constant contact.
When the memories and ghosts in the shop get to be a bit too much, Holly puts it up for sale. She never really wanted it in the first place, so the decision isn’t terribly difficult.
But, when the ghost of a local woman, who was killed under mysterious circumstances, asks for her help, Holly agrees to investigate. During the course of her investigation, she realizes that her special ability is a gift, and it’s one that can potentially save lives…if she can use it to catch a killer.
Will she keep the shop and continue to use her gift to catch a killer and become an amateur snoop? Find out in this exciting new Paranormal Cozy Mystery!
I really enjoyed the start of this new series and meeting Holly who can talk to ghosts. I probably would've felt sorry for Joleen's ghost too and wanted to help her. There were a few suspects in her death but I was pretty sure about the one I suspected and was right. I loved the showdown and look forward to more adventures with Holly and her cute li'l dog!
Holly has been able to see and speak to ghosts since she was a child. But, after her mother exploited the ability for her own gain, Holly has spent years stoically ignoring any ghost she encounters, and it’s been working for her. Until the day she comes into possession of a ring with a spirit attached to it. The woman was murdered and wants Holly to help find her killer. Holly reluctantly agrees and begins delving into the woman’s last days in an effort to find out who killed her. The investigation, however, may put Holly’s life in danger as well.
A bit different than the normal ‘mc can communicate with spirits’ trope, in that Holly had to be in proximity with an item the spirit was attached to. The story was interesting. I had hoped for more humor, but Holly is a somber character. This was novella-length, so there wasn’t much world-building, but there was enough to provide a solid framework. I liked Holly’s dog, a hyper, one-eyed Jack Russell.
A great start in what promises to be a fun series. I always like the starts since it’s like making new friends. The main characters are introduced and in this case have some very interesting traits. The storyline is unique and the book is well written. I would encourage readers to give this book a read.
A charming new paranormal series featuring ghosts and an amateur sleuth. Ghost seeks help in a case of their murder. Will our amateur sleuth be able to solve the case or will she be a victim?
I really enjoyed this book. It was the first book by this author and I must admit it was a very good read. I am getting the next book and I will be settling back to jump into it.
New to me author. Fantastic first book in a new series. Original character background and setting. Well written. I look forward to more in this series.
This was wonderful actually alot better then I thought it would be, yea I have a new series and I know I'm way behind on most of these series, I'm trying for some reason I love stories with ghosts. I received this as an ARC and voluntarily choose to reveiw. Sorry it's so late lol
Wow! Four solid stars for this one. A short book that gives us Holly and her ability to see ghosts attached to items in her antique store and one of the ghosts convinces Holly to help find her murderer. We’ve all read this before but this little book was something else. It’s definitely a formula book but it’s one that actually works. I’ve said it many times-if you can actually write, then the formula don’t matter! Ravyn Amara (maybe a pen name? for someone else?) can write. The plot moves right along, it is tight with no fluff. The character list is short with everyone playing their part. The mystery was interesting and the paranormal stuff with the ghost worked and fit the plot. There is also an awesome dog!! My only dings are that it’s technically more of a novella than a real book; I would have enjoyed spending more time in this world with these characters. The other problem was technical: page counts were wonky, formatting was off in places but that is more of the ongoing Kindle issues on Amazon/Kindle Unlimited. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the lookout for more in the series as they come out.
