Lal Bahadur Shastri rose from poor circumstances to be the second prime minister of India. Added to the personal challenge of matching the stature of his predecessor, Pandit Nehru, a leader of international repute, Lal Bahadur Shastri had to face a number of obstacles when he assumed office. Slowly and steadily and with his characteristic cool, not only did he measure up to all these challenges, but he also demonstrated that he could be tough when the occasion demanded. The life story of this great son of India is depicted for our young readers in this Amar Chitra Katha.
This is my first book series in Amar Chitra Katha. It is a very short and script book but concise to the point and covered many important events of Shastri ji's life.
His story is of a person who started from ground/scratch without any background, a mischievous boy, who lost his father at an age of 1.5 years, went to go to study at Varanasi. His ethics and integrity were of the really gold standard. Once he has decided to do something, then he sticks to it. His mother also gave a big moral support for Shastri ji in sticking to his values even though their family was living in poverty.
It felt like he was working hard for the freedom movement, and did his best without expecting any positions. But as the leaders realized his potential, he got into many ministries and finally became 2nd prime minister of India after the death of Nehru.
Shastri ji's wife was a big support for him and was taking care of the family when he was with the freedom struggle.
His story is an example that if we focus on the work at hand, and do our work with ethics and integrity, we can reach high levels.
I saw a movie called 'Tashkent files' in Hindi which shows other side of story of what might have happened about the death of our dear Shastri ji.
