Properties of Mortar with Nano-Silica of Varying Particle Size

Rate this book
With the advent of nanotechnology, the material properties of the concrete industry, allows engineers and architects the ability to use various materials in structural applications that were once impossible.Nanotechnology creates new possibilities to improve material properties for civil construction and special focus in this area is put on Portland cement and gypsum. This work aims to investigate the properties of mortar with nano-silica of varying particle size. The nano-silica in mortar and later in concrete will find various applications in the construction industry. Gaining of the early strength up to an optimum level of the nano silica replacement of cement, will help in projects like bridges, dams, tunnels, barrages, etc. Also, improved hardening of concrete due to reduction in setting time will add a lot of longevity and durability to marine projects.Taking advantage of nanostructure characterization tools and materials, the optimal use of nano silica will create a new concrete mixture that will result in long lasting concrete structures in the future.
