The Joy of Assurance: Drawing From the Wells of Salvation

Rate this book
"Take a scriptural and historical adventure with Pastor Randy Adams as he explores the lyrics of the hymn Blessed Assurance, considered by many one of the greatest hymns ever composed. Be inspired by the life and devotion to God of Fanny Crosby, blind from early childhood, who wrote over 8000 hymns. Walk with Pastor Randy as he relates the lyrics of this hymn to his own Christian experience and growth. Written to bring modern day believers the same joy of assurance that Fanny Crosby experienced, this work has as its basic purpose reminding Christians who God is and who they are in Christ, and to banish from their hearts and minds all doubt and fear in their daily walk with Jesus. This book will challenge you to know and apply Scripture to your life just as Fanny Crosby did. Enjoy Pastor Randy's anecdotes from his own life and walk, and take the opportunity to be enriched in your journey with Christ or to come to know Him in a deeper and more meaningful way." Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Pastor Randy Adams came to faith in Christ in 1982 after meeting and marrying his wife Rosalie. Together they gained a heart for world missions during the 1990's, and briefly participated in missions work in Brazil. Since 2005 Randy and Rosalie have together pastored Streams in the Desert Praise Chapel in Desert Hot Springs, California, where they currently live and serve God.

This book felt like guidance from someone who has walked with God longer than I have. Pastor Randy’s reflections helped me slow down and trust God more, instead of always questioning myself. The story of Fanny Crosby was inspiring and humbling. I finished this book encouraged and more confident in my walk with Christ.

I appreciated the pastoral tone of this book. It doesn’t preach at the reader; it walks with them. The way Pastor Randy connects hymn lyrics, Scripture, and real-life faith made this a book I could easily recommend to women in ministry or Bible study groups.

As someone still growing in my faith, this book helped me understand what assurance really means. Pastor Randy explains Scripture in a way that feels clear and patient, not overwhelming. I especially appreciated how he connects the words of Blessed Assurance to everyday Christian life. It made me realize that faith isn’t about never doubting, but about knowing where to go when doubt comes.

Reading this book felt like a reminder of what truly matters in the Christian life. Pastor Randy writes with the wisdom of experience and the heart of a shepherd. The reflections on Blessed Assurance helped me see that assurance is not about feeling strong all the time, but about trusting God even when we feel weak. This book strengthened my faith and renewed my gratitude for God’s grace.

I picked up this book during a season of anxiety and spiritual uncertainty. What stood out most was the gentle reminder of who God is and who we are in Christ. This isn’t a book that shames doubt; it addresses it with Scripture and compassion. Pastor Randy’s own experiences made the message feel honest. It helped quiet my heart.

If you love hymns, this book will deepen your worship. If you don’t, it may change your mind. I was struck by how much theology, comfort, and assurance is packed into Blessed Assurance. Pastor Randy helps unpack that beauty without overcomplicating it. I found myself singing the hymn differently after reading, with more understanding and gratitude.
