Rahsaan Stink Jones was given a second chance at life when he moved from his slum ridden North Carolina neighborhood to Newport News Virginia to live with his grandparents. It didn t take long for him to see that all ghettos across America were just the same. After being introduced to a crack epidemic sweeping through the country, he met Cross, A crazed New Yorker who would stop at nothing for his thirst for life s finer things. Cross embedded his sadistic way of doing things into Stink s life. However, after meeting the beautiful Bonni, Stink s focus on life began to change. Faced with the reality that his lifestyle would only lead to death or prison, Stink was ready to make a choice. With the atrocious acts of his partner looming over his head, Stink was sure that he too would be Crossed.
This was a good book although almost in every hustler the same mistake is being made and no one seems to ever come out of prison to make a change with his life. Rahsaan Jones aka Stink mother sent him to Virginia to live with his grandparents for a better life, however he ends up meeting his cousin P.J. and became a small time hustler. Learning about his hustler after meeting with some more people he sees that now he can make more money selling crack. Now he is seeing a fortune in making more money than before he decides to live the life of a hustler and thought his life had become better, but not realizing the problems to come. He also thought that his grandfather didn't know what it was that he was doing, however his grandfather tried telling him things, but he never took heed to the lesson given and end up crashing. This book had some deceiving people in each others lives and not one person even realize who would possibly be crossing who. I'm looking to see what Crosses testimony will bring during the trial. Can he stay true to the game or will he turn on his friends and family?
Rahshaan Jones aka Stink relocated to Virginia with his grandparents to escape the slums of North Carolina. Stink was initially able to ignore the calling of the streets refusing to sell weed with his cousin P.J. but when crack emerged on the scene it was Stink who enticed P.J. with a more profitable hustle. Within the first year of selling crack Stink and his crew began to see more money than they could imagine. Unfortunately for Stink his first year in the game also led to a six month stint behind bars.
Stink’s brief experience in the prison system taught him to hustle harder and smarter. New connects were attained for bigger profits which in turn equaled bigger risks. Even the love of a good girl and the impending birth of his first child couldn’t deter Stink from the call of the streets. Stink and his crew were strong arming the streets but when the long arm of the law catches up with them loyalties will be tested.
Deceived by The Phantom is a cautionary street tale laced with evidence of the pitfalls of street life. Readers won’t find out Stink’s fate at the end of book one but what they will discover is that the means most definitely justifies the ends.
