Generosity: big-heartedness as a way of life by Michael Wakely is a great book (Click on the title to buy it). What is generosity? How do we cultivate it? How do we know when to stop?

Generosity should be at the heart of the way a Christian lives, anything else is meagre crumbs from the table living. That and simplicity of course. This reads easily but packs a punch, the stories are relevant, accesible and the example one to follow. There is sufficient Biblical evidence and good use of scripture to convince and the portrait painted of a generous life is inspiring.

Compared to The Power of Generosity this is more British! By that I mean less story based teaching and more explaining the scriptures based teaching. Story is used but not as much, scripture isn't absent from the other just not as present as much. I enjoyed both books and both have encouraged me to not pass up opportunities to be generous with my time and money.

Why would anyone choose the alternative? It does occasionally fall short of being radical but there's no question that after reading this book you'll have a better understanding of why it is 'more blessed to give than to receive'.

I really wanted it to be good, especially as the author sent me two copies free of charge, but I found it to lack a core message throughout.

There were some real gems of wisdom though which I found to be helpful.

There's such a shortage of books on giving. I'd love to know what you'd recommend
