Mark is the youngest child of a professional family living in London. His two older sisters have left home, and his parents work in the City. It can be a lonely life for Mark as he takes himself to school and back. His one companion is a little robin he calls Joey, who flies up to his bedroom window and follows him to the bus stop to school each morning. One day his mother announces they are going to Devon for a long weekend to stay with her brother who has a farm. Mark is very excited.
