Birds of our Land targets readers between the ages of eight and twelve. This reading audience while being coaxed to suspend disbelief learn a lot about the traits and characteristics of the birds. The book is not a zoology text neither does it exhaust everything about them .It simply aims at firing the imagination of the reader as well as educate. The language is simple and challenges the reader to look up new word. Non African readers will also discover that the birds they know or see in the zoo are also found in places other than their own and are known by different names. It is a must read for children in this age bracket everywhere.

This is an excellent book about birds in Africa. The writers include scientific information about each as well as their African names and, in some cases, stories about them. There was lots of blank space which I assume will be filled with photos or illustrations. This would be a good choice for elementary students and precocious preschoolers. I thank NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC.
