Years ago, Hannah fell in love. Her dream vacation held every girl’s fairytale romance. The stranger who stopped to help when she had a flat tire became her knight-in-shining armor when he carried her off on his shining modern steed – his motorcycle. Her one-week whirlwind romance ends in a fairytale marriage. Her dream come true, however, turns into a nightmare when she awakes the morning after her wedding to an empty room with her new husband gone. Her heart is shattered, but her Christian faith remains strong. When she discovers she’s pregnant, she’s too embarrassed to continue in her old job as church secretary and choir director. So she takes on the job of singer in a supper club lounge. She dreams of someday buying the club from her grandfatherly boss and turning it into a combined Christian Book Store-Coffee House.
Hannah’s heart was shattered once, and now it seems it will be again when her dreams are dashed by the owner selling the restaurant unexpectedly to someone else. When she finds out he’s sold it to none other than the man who stole her heart, broke it, and left her alone raising their son-- she’s left with not only her dreams shattered, but her job at stake as well.
Even more devastating, she knows who he is, but he acts as though he doesn’t know her. And she finds his frequent trance states quite troubling. God leads her to someone totally unexpected who sheds some light on the situation. But will she be able to figure out what to do with the information she’s given? Only God can give her the real answers she needs. Will Brock ever recognize her as someone he once fell madly in love with? When she finally shares the truth of her identity, will her heart be broken all over again?
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It kept me captivated and intrigued the entire time. It was very real and the secondary characters were intriguing as well without making you lose focus on the main characters. I’d love to see a sequel or two sharing their stories as well. Mrs. Latham tells her story in a charming and creative way. Her devout faith shines through in her writing and I was impressed by that. God’s amazing power and healing touch shines through in this book. I highly recommend it. Congratulations, Delia. Well done!
Delia Latham’s White Rose release, Yesterday’s Promise, is a sweet, sweet romance that sent me right back in time to the extremely enjoyable book club romances I first discovered and enjoyed in my high school years. Part of the story was set in Yosemite, a lovely place filled with romance and delight.
Hannah Johns, preacher’s daughter who now makes a life for herself and young son, David, as a supper club singer, dreams big. Unfortunately, her dream of taking over the club is foiled when the kindly owner decides to sell to his godson, Brock Ellis. David’s parentage is not much of a secret, except to the person who matters most: his father. But what kind of cruelty does Brock display when he acts as though he has no memory of the most important week of Hannah’s life?
Brock’s sister Pru and Hannah’s friend Lori support both Hannah and Brock as they seek to restore Brock’s memory. Meanwhile, Brock has fallen in love with Hannah, even as he wonders why he carries a wedding ring after the accident that took his memory.
Delia’s details and characterization made Yesterday’s Promise a fun read. I enjoyed her story and read it in two sittings.
I received a copy of this book for review purposes.
Hannah Johns, a single mom tries to make the best of a very bad situation. Abandoned after a very romantic, but very brief marriage, she chalks it up to a lesson learned and strives to put the past behind her. However, she soon realizes that’s impossible. That impossibility comes in the form of Davey, the dark curled, hazel eyed son born as a result of that union. Nevertheless, for four years she manages to take care of them by singing in a dinner lounge, with the hope of one day owning it and turning into a Christian cafe' of sorts. But that dream comes to a screeching halt when the owner decides to sell it a lot quicker than she anticipated. The new owner? None else than Brock Ellis, her estranged husband and Davey's father. And oh, by the way - he doesn't remember anyone named Hannah. Forgiveness is the word that jumps out to me after reading this book. As Hannah and Brock's paths cross once again, a lot of things are said and done that leaves them both feeling frustrated and misunderstood. Though Brock has long ago let go of his faith, Hannah clings to hers which makes this whirlwind romance very inspiring up until the end. Yesterday's Promise is laced with colorful characters, humor and Godly insight. If you like Inspirational Romance, you'll love this book. Recommended. I look forward to reading other novels by this author as well.

Hannah Johns is a single mom working as a singer in a dinner lounge. Brock Ellis is an entrepreneur who buys the dinner lounge and has big plans to change it. He also broke Hannah’s heart four years before, but he shows no signs of recognition when he’s introduced as her new boss. What ensues is an amazing tale of faith and love, memories and loss. And in the midst of it all, Hannah’s three-year-old son, Davey, unwittingly helps bring together his mother and the father he’s never known.
Delia Latham’s writing style is vibrant and realistic, evoking emotion and bringing the story and the characters to life. She’s seamlessly woven Christianity into Yesterday’s Promise, showing that even the strongest of Christians can have doubts and misunderstand God’s leading. This book also shows how forgiveness and love can mend the most broken of fences and that God’s grace and strength are sufficient to sustain us through whatever storms life may throw our way. Though Ms. Latham a new author to me, I would definitely read more of her work.
Yesterdays Promise arrives on todays doorstep with a huge thud, knocking Hannah's world for six. Ms. Latham weaves an enchanting tale that mixes both past and present together in an ecleptic mix of laughter, tears and heart stopping moment. Hannah and Brock's story is an enticing one, that keeps you reading to the end.
Yesterdays Promise by Delia Latham A love story with a twist. Our prayers are often answered in ways we could never imagine, all in GOD's timing. Our beliefs and convictions can be changed in an instant, often by circumstances we have no control over. Yesterdays Promise by Delia Latham is a love story with a twist. Delia shows the reader how a motorcycle, a Mustang, and Yosemite Park are just the combination needed in this delightful light read. Brock and Hannah meet on the side of the road outside Yosemite Park when Hannah's Mustang breaks down. Brock is her knight in shining armor...or leathers and a Harley. They wind up doing many activities together and go against their convictions about long courtships by marrying at week's end. Strange circumstances separate them and this delightful tale takes you on their journey to answered prayer. Be prepared to be blessed as you cheer these characters on. I give this book 5 stars!
Most often, the complaints in a Christian romance is that the "Christian" part is too heavy handed, overshadowing the story. The opposite seems to be true in "Yesterday's Promise". The storyline was so far-fetched and impossible to believe that the overall "message" was lost. The examples of this are too many and too hard to believe to mention.
