The Legend of Dragoon is by far my favourite JRPG ever. I've beaten it many times, and have absorbed every piece of media I've been able to dig up over the internet (which isn't as much as their should be!) So purchasing the Prima Guide was a given. So I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed in the quality, and conflicted on how to rate this!
The good: - A beautifully written introduction section. I wish this was the lead-in to a novel, because it really leaves you wanting more NOW. - Decent character bios. - Great artwork. Can't say that there's a lot new in here, but it's great to see the characters in vivid colour. - Fairly decent boss strategies. The book seems to lean towards using Kongol and Albert (I mean, so did 11 year old me but maybe that's the audience), and doesn't shake it up very much. - A convenient full list of all 50 Stardusts (although not detailed enough) - The book does some with a big poster of the map of Endiness, which is a nice bonus!
The bad: - It's skimpy on information. The game takes a minimum of 80 hours to beat and is so incredibly nuanced, but the guide is ONLY 112 pages and just briefly touches on each area. - The maps are *very* small and impractical. I tried to use it to help get me out of the Death Frontier and think I strained my eyes in the process. - The weapons and monsters lists are incomplete and non-detailed. - You are so screwed for the final boss. - If you're looking for a walkthrough, any fan made version will be far superior. - The editing is poor. I mean, it IS similar to the games quality in that regard, I guess so maybe that's on purpose ;)
In short, a must for big fans of this legendary adventure, but impractical to use as a guide to get you through the game itself.
