BOOK CONTENT

It has 6 chapters to cover the main topics. Each one has demonstration scripts and around 10 exercises for you to test yourself. All these chapters use the same specially created database.

The first chapter shows you how all the common methods of filtering a table of data to extract the exact sub-set that you need.

Chapter 2 covers the conversion and manipulation of data to put it in the form that you want.

Chapter 3 covers what, for most people of every level of SQL experience, is the most difficult topic - how to join tables together so that you don't miss anything nor include things that you don't want.

Chapter 4 looks at how to analyse, rather than just extract, your data with all the common summary functions such sums, averages, counts and so on.

Chapter 5 shows you how to use sub-queries to compare different sub-sets of data.

Finally, chapter 6 looks at how to determine the degree of overlap between different sets of data.

EXTRA EXERCISES

Having covered all the main topics, you can move on to a further chapter, for a different specially created database. This has 100-plus exercises, covering all the same topics, but for different data. Database Scripts The scripts that create the 2 databases are at the end of the book and are also available as a download from the designated web address.
