Desperado and IDW are proud to present a retrospective volume devoted to the entire career of one of today's most popular artists -- George Perez! This book offers readers and fans a chance to witness his immense and sensational career from his early days at Marvel to his glory days at DC where he co-created the New Teen Titans, which rivaled the X-Men in popularity at the time, and revitalized Wonder Woman as both writer and artist. This volume covers his return to the Avengers, as well as his resurrgence at CrossGen and his own independent projects. This tome also offers glimpses of previously never-before-seen material from his files and sketchbooks, private commissioned work, as well as beautifully reproduced images of his personal favorites with insights into his life and creative process.
George Pérez (June 9, 1954 – May 6, 2022) was an American comic books artist and writer, known for his work on various titles, including Avengers, Teen Titans and Wonder Woman.
This is yet another high quality humongous art book from IDW and Desperado Publishing. It's a splendid retrospective of iconic artist George Perez.
The book collects 4 decades of work from 1970 - 2010. There are comic panels, covers, sketches, commissions and an interesting chapter on theater posters (one of his other interests).
The amount and quality of the work is incredible, even from way back in the 70s. There are work he did for the popular titles like New Teen Titans, Wonder Woman, JLA/Avengers, etc, and also many lesser known titles, especially those he did for small independent publishers that he like. All the work are well credited, including the inkers.
George Perez provides first hand account on his drawing career throughout. He talks about everything really, like his career choices, how he conceptualizes pages and covers, and also explain why some things just don't work or don't make sense, such as producing creator-owned comics, in his case Crimson Plague.
This is a fine and insightful book for all fans of George Perez. There's also a signed and numbered edition available.
