A pretty Decent read. This was the 2nd Author from this Publisher that I've read and their style of writing were similar (Ju Ju Bishop).👌 Some parts of the book were Unrealistic like 'Sincere/Serious' becoming a Big-time pusher *like his Brother, Terrell/Pharaoh* with NO previous experience or anything.😩😩 It made No sense, how Serious became "The Man", from just watching how Pharaoh was on the streets. However, the writing itself-it was Good & I liked the story, nevertheless.👊 Because of the conclusion & how the book ended, I'm curious to see what happens next, in 'Draw, Part 2'......💯
Excellent book! I totally enjoyed reading this book!
This book kept me mesmerized throughout. The characters and their issues and plots flowed together very well. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
This is another author I was lucky enough to find on Facebook. I ordered this signed book from his website at realinkpublishing.com. He even lives in Detroit, Michigan!
"I was well known throughout the hood because of my brother. His name was Terrell, but the streets knew him as Pharaoh. He had the drug game on lock and was one of the most paid niggas in New York. Everybody knew Pharaoh. (p.4)"
This is Serious talking. He is Terrell's brother. He was taught by Terrell that he always needs to be loyal to his friends no matter what (p.7). He found out that his brother got into some big trouble. Read the book to see what kind of trouble he got into and what street life is like.
Here is a little bit about the author from his website:
Jreal was born and raised in Yonkers, New York. Jreal’s ambition and passion to express his life experiences led him to write urban fiction from a perspective as a student of the vast literary world. Taking his drive and creativity, Jreal decided to put his vivid imagination to work and began writing about life street life from all aspects not just the glorification but the real life situations and consequences that take place amongst the urban dwellers. Jreal enjoys writing and is currently working to build his own Company, Real Ink Publishing as well as be a positive figure for the youth in his community.
From reading this book I could see what street life was like and what they had to do to survive on a daily basis. I was very surprised though about the very end and do want to read Draw 2!
The book “Draw” starts off in a narrative voice, instead of the characters. The opening of the story expounds on the drug life, loyalty to the streets, and killings on the block. Sincere witnesses a dead man shot by his own brother, Pharaoh, who is the big-time dealer that’s empire goes downhill rapidly. Street life is all about the MONEY and nothing else. However, one of the hustlers named Tipsy has a crack-head mother and trusts her with the stash of cocaine and keeps rolls of the money in the home before the other dealers or cops gets it. This is unbelievable that she’d help and not take it for her drug habit especially if she’s noted as a crack head mother. Yet, other scenes were vivid and dialogue allows the reader to imagine being present such as the brief court scene.
If you like to read street literature, this book is a must-read that follows the scenery of the hood, drug life, women behind-the-scene of gritty games for the love of their hustlers, and sexual escapades for the night. For a new comer, this is well-written compared to the others that are coming up in the game of street literature.
*There were minor typos and proofreading errors during the reading.
Sincere aka Serious idolizes his brother, Pharaoh, and wants to be just like him. Pharaoh runs the streets of Yonkers, New York, and has the drug game on lock. Pharaoh moves Sincere and his mom out of the hood in to the suburbs and warns his little brother about the game. When Pharaoh goes missing, and is believed to be dead, Sincere steps up and vows to avenge his brother's death. He gets a crew together and starts planning that revenge. He does the only thing he knows how - the streets. Sincere quickly rises to the top. Then everything starts to crumble, he's gunned down and arrested. While in jail he starts planning his come back.
J-Real did a good job in keeping the pages turning with "Draw" and setting up the sequel. I can't wait to read what happens next.
Way too gangsta for me. The slang left me confused and the story hard to follow. After 3 hours of trying to read through the grammatical errors, slang & run on sentences, I had to cut my losses. This was debut novel with great intentions but poor editing. Maybe next time...
