An ok middle grades book about a historical oddity - when Van Zandt County tried to secede from TX after the Civil War. Told through the eyes of a 14 year old girl, the book considers the reasons for and against the plan with a plot line of a rivalry and lots of loss. There is a lynching, a KKK appearance, and other mature themes that make this not an elementary grades book.

Yeah, probably for teen readers but very well written and a fun interesting read, odd plot

It was kind of interesting. Perfect example of how stupid some people are who try to take the law into their own hands.
