If The World Were a Village of 100 People was a book that i read two years ago, and i remembered it sat proudly alongside other best-sellers in the best book list.

The book is actually based on a thought-provoking email which was translated from Japanese into Chinese and then English.

The writer of the email compresses the world into a village of 100 people, while considering the burning issues of race, religion, welath, housing, literacy, nutrition, birth and death from a global perspective. These numbers represent the phenomenona of the global village. As the world is becoming smaller and smaller, we are actually closely linked to each other in one single community.

The place we are living is no longer a kingdom in isolation, but one larger single community which is ethnically diverse. Different home cultures has became more international and is transforming into xamples of crossovers. Facing the dilemma of fewer options, preservation of cultural distinctiveness is becoming an important issue.

To turn the global village into a truly international community, respect with different races is the answer to achieve peace. Besides, the book remind us not to overlook the mishaps in places other than our home country. While we are enjoying the benefits brought on by the globalization of OMS economy, the suffering of the less fortunate ones that are brought on by war, imprisonment, and starvation requires our concern.

We should cherish what we have so far and are encouraged to do our bit in helping our counterparts.

This story creates a small world where children can visually see how we are al connected at a global level. The world is created with only 100 people to illustrate how many people out of a hundred speak different languages and live in different parts of the world. The story also focuses on the positivity of interacting with one another and how wonderful our differences are.

I read this one a long time ago when I was still just a child. Not quite a long book but I like very much hence it somehow widen me up in a kind of way.
The book makes me realize that there's a lot more that I didn't know about this world (at the time) and world is so full of variety in a simple way even a kid like me could understand.
