What is most helpful to know in relation to this book is that it was originally published within a year of his death, and is largely a puff piece. What I mean is that it isn't a serious biography. It does relate the major events of his life in a limited way, but it reveals absolutely nothing negative and is full of praise for the man. As such, the insight it gives us onto his life and ministry is terribly limited. I will say, that even through this, the glimpses I got of him revealed considerable theological issues. In a sense, I respect him less after reading this than I did before reading it. Having said that, he clearly had a heart for the Lord and just as clearly was rather influential in his day and even down into our own. As such, it was certainly not a waste of time to read it.
The book only emphasizes the positive elements in the life of Simpson. It is not critical enough in my eyes. Sometimes is even embarrassing. I´m now reading Wingspread by Tozer, hopefully that version gives a view more realistic.
