This book was amazing! One simple word and a spiritual contemplation to go alone with it for every day. Such a good way of centering at the beginning of a new day; read it all through 2010, and will likely read it again in a couple of years.
Assuming this is the old Deng Ming Dao book, the same review:
OK, but not as good as I once thought it to be.
A secularist friend turned me on to this book many, many years ago as an alternative to 12-step/Hazelden "day at a time" books.
And it wasn't bad.
That said, with more and more years, I recognize its problems more.
It at times crosses the line from "spiritual but not religious" into explicitly religious.
And, per other reviewers, it's not always Daoist.
Sometimes, it's definitely Zen Buddhist. And, occasionally, arguably, it's not even Zen. It's just flat out Buddhist, like the June 30 entry: http://community.fortunecity.ws/roswe...
I bought this book online as graduation present for myself, and I absolutely loved it! It was like you could picture each scene as you read along. And the pages were very descriptive...a lot of romantic, passionate, sexual scenes in it as well as emotions behind the characters. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys passionate, steamy romance novels as well as vampires. Can't wait to read the second installment!
