Technologies For Education: A Practical Guide 5th Edition by Ann E. Barron, Karen S. Ivers, Nick Lilavois, and Julie A. Wells
This book is, as noted in the title, a practical guide for educators to help them better understand the trends, benefits, and instructional applications of technology in the classroom. Each section begins with a classroom scenario and introduction to help the reader get a better understanding of how the technology being discussed may be utilized to best serve the interests and needs of students. Also, each section includes a summary and most sections also include a comprehensive resource list for the particular technology being discussed.
This guide includes chapters on Teaching with Technology, Computer Graphics, Advanced Computer Graphics (Animation, 3D Graphics, and Virtual Reality), Digital Audio, Digital Video, Telecommunications, Distance Learning, and a very thorough chapter examining Assistive Technologies in the Classroom.
Technologies for Education: A Practical Guide may be used, as suggested by the authors, as a resource book, a guide for pre-service or in-service trainings, as well as a textbook for graduate or post-graduate multi-media and technologies studies.
Technologies for Education: A Practical Guide continually emphasizes the educational applications of technology. The authors also go over the advantages and disadvantages for each technology. In addition, included in this book are the current technology standards for students and teachers. The authors also provide the reader with evidence- based research that shows the effectiveness of technology in education.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone in the field of education whether a classroom teacher, media specialists, librarian, or administrator. This book is a very comprehensive resource and guide for using and implementing technology in the 21st century classroom.
