The East German "revolution" of 1989-1990 indeed remains for many a miracle. The walls of separation, incarceration, virtual slavery, the walls of terror, have come tumbling down. Out of the debris of decades of separation, suppression, and repression, a generation is being reborn in freedom. But the revolution did not just happen. The dreams and hopes and the courageous efforts of an enslaved generation finally caused the walls to come tumbling down.
