Patricia Leitch (July 13, 1933 - July 28, 2015) was a Scottish writer, best known for her series of children's books about a girl named Jinny Manders and her wild, traumatized Arabian horse Shantih, set in the Scottish Highlands. The 12 books in the Jinny series were published between 1976 - 1988 by Armada. They are currently in reprint by Catnip Publishers. Two more of her novels, Dream of Fair Horses (1975) and The Horse from Black Loch (1963) have been republished by Jane Badger Books. Leitch has also written under the pseudonym Jane Eliot.
For the love of a horse, A devil to ride and the summer riders are three books in one volume, and three stories from a series that i apsolutely loved and cherished as a child. Jinny is a horse mad, obsessed child who dreams of a mesmirising blazing Chestnut Arab horse, who haunts her dreams and fills her every waking hour with visions of galloping hooves. Little does Jinny know that this horse will become reality and that a whole series of adventures will unfold, as her Chestnut Arab as the catalyst for change. Every pony mad child would love the Jinny series as it is one of the very best pony books that there are, with a fantastic and unforgettable character as the central focus point (no not Jinny but her horse!). I fell in love with book one so much so that i henceforth devoured the rest of the entire series throughout my childhood, filling inumerable shelves on my bookshelf with Jinny's adventures. These stories are creative, heartwarming, exciting and engrossing that i spent many hours lost with the character Jinny and her stunning horse. I not only grew to love the Arabian horse as a unique & captivating breed but also to apreciate the privalige of having an actual horse of ones own (not that i have fully owned a horse but i have only 'shared/ loaned' due to costs). Any child or young adult/ teenager who is lucky enough to own thier own pony or horse should definately read Jinny's books, as they not only highlight and clarify the utter privalige of being able to own a magnificent animal but they also are a guide as to how to treat a horse or pony correctly, and to get the best and make the most of your time together. Magical and spellbinding stories that i will treasure close to my heart always and certainly never forget, as i had such fun.
