The fabulous pink elephant would send Rupert Conway on a mission that would reach far beyond his goal. It would take him behind the Iron Curtain, where his presence would arouse the dangerous suspicions of unknown enemies, and it would involve him in the dark undercurrents of international conspiracy.
Edwin Leather breaks the rule of former MPs writing fiction: this is a good one. Of course, all has changed now with the reunification of Germany, but when this book was written and set, there were still checkpoints between Vienna and Dresden. One thing has not changed; there are still undiscovered Nazi art treasures and valuables. This novel pits a former US Army art recovery specialist, now dealer, against art smugglers and spies. Conway's relatives were among the victims and now he has a chance to recover some of it.
