Marc Mulders: Dauw/Dew

Rate this book
In the spring and summer, Dutch artist Marc Mulders paints still lifes of irises, lilies, sunflowers and tulips; in the autumn and winter, he turns to hares, slaughtered deer, butchered cattle and fish. With layers of paint so thick that his works seem almost three-dimensional, Mulders faithfully follows the seasons and addresses what may well be the great theme in the history of the eternal cycle of life and death. Yet, while defining our inescapable mortality on canvas, the artist also manages to portray the innate beauty and sensuality of life, and the grandeur of creation. 80 of Mulders's most recent paintings are presented in Dew , a publication that coincides with the art world's renewed interest in works that partake in the painterly tradition.
