Do you know the difference between Woolen and Worsted?

This is a very detailed and comprehensive book on "Weaving, Spinning, and Dyeing." It is packed with technical drawings that are mostly geared toward Native American craft, yet it also shows other traditional methods and equipment. There are several detailed pages on how to set up spinning wheels of different types. The book alone is worth knowing descriptions, such as Woolen vs. Worsted.

this is on my list of MUST-HAVES if a person is looking to peddle their home-spun merchandise in an open market...

spinning of many different kinds of fibers is discussed along with the use of chemical and natural dyes...

*many* pics included in the book, of the different fibers pre-during and post dyeing, and also pics of the projects she discusses....

many different kinds of looms are also discussed (from inkles and small card looms, right on up to multi-peddle rigid-heddle types)...

you can see how to make your own looms and get a feel for the author's experiences in using those looms to make various kinds of fabrics and hear of her opinions regarding what to make (and how much of what) to sell them to the public...

its like sitting next to an older woman from your family and hearing her talk on about how she made ends meet "when i was yer age", and even if you walk away from the book feeling that it might be a little dated, and that you would do things differently, its a very *very* solid jumping-off point for home-taught textile artisans...

we can't expect to learn at granny's knee anymore, when it comes to how to make cloth and sell it, this book feels more to me like a belov'd old family member, than just a bunch of pages glued together and sitting up on a shelf...

Mostly about weaving, a bit about dying, a very little bit about spinning.
