Retail Ramblings

Rate this book
If, for some demented reason, you ever have the desire to meet the most disrespectful, unreasonable, selfish, angry, impatient, and unfeeling people in the world, you may want to consider a career in customer service.

After a decade in the industry, I can safely say that humanity is at its worst when they walk through the doors of any retail establishment and cross that boundary that separates human from customer. It's a frightful transformation not unlike the transition of man to werewolf. Usually competent people become babbling idiots, loving mothers become haggling shrews, and kindly old men turn into vicious scavengers.

Don't believe me?

This book chronicles some of the most outrageous and unbelievable encounters I've faced during my years of servitude to the retail beast. Don't let the cover page fool you. A dark world lurks within.

Have you ever worked retail?

I feel your pain.

Been writing since I was fourteen years old. I first got the urge to write when I finished Final Fantasy III for the Super Nintendo, and I didn't want the story to end. So my first attempt at writing a book came in the form of a Final Fantasy III sequel. After that, I thought it might be cool to try to create something entirely original. That's when I started writing my first novel.

And I haven't looked back!

Retail Ramblings is such a fun read and I laughed so hard at some of the customers he had to deal with. I also am guilty of some of the bad behavior (especially when I was younger) so I can relate and will show more courtesy to those in retail.

Clearly, Kevin is a very talented author; this book provided him a way to vent, but also showed he had a remarkable sense of humor about the whole, long eleven years. His frustration with his "evil" boss showed some of the pressures that the low-paid retail workers face and it is a wonder that anyone in retail smiles at all. I found this book not only very funny, but enlightening enough to show the retail-worker's plight. If you are in retail, customer service, or are a customer - YOU NEED THIS BOOK!

I have taken a break from this book for the time being (today is 2/2/2011). I will come back to it and finish at a later date. I was in the mood to start a mystery book, so I am now reading that.

If you have worked a retail job before, you will enjoy some of the stories that the author has to share from some of his experiences working.
