This was one of the textbooks used in a class I took at the University of Washington on race and racism. The class was taught by psychology professor Nathanel N. Wagner — one of the authors, and probably the best-known profession at the UW then because of his popular class on human sexuality. This was from a time when "Chicano" was the politically correct term for what we now call a "Hispanic American" or "Latino". This book provides an etymology of the term "Chicano" and the confusing political/ethnic implications of its usage. Well documented in the book is the mistreatment of people of Mexican descent throughout American history, including some strange arrangements made in the 19th and 20th centuries which cast a rather confusing light on the immigration issues being discussed today.
