About the author

Mónica Carretero was born in Madrid, but now lives happily in Segovia, where she draws colorful illustrations and writes books for children. She assures that her job makes her feel alive. A passion well depicted in her sunny drawings and original, cheerful characters.

She has illustrated dozens of books, games and posters for Spain, England, France, Korea, Australia and the United States. Since 2011, her work has been recognized on several occasions, being awarded at the London Book Fair, the Latino Book Awards in the United States and also in the BookExpo America.

Muy divertido y lindas ilustraciones. “Un manual para ser piratas con todos los clichés habidos y por haber sobre ellos” al final vienen actividades como sopa de letras, y adivinanzas y hasta descifrar un código que te enseñó antes. Bastante disfrutable.

Mónica Carretero is an all-time favourite. Her drawing style, so tender and cheerful, makes this book a must-have in our library. A perfect handbook for our youngest to dream, explore and have fun.

It's one thing to write stories in which pirates are a bit romanticized, but it's another thing to present a "handbook" on pirates that doesn't actually present any accurate information at all.
