This book amazed me in the way that it was able to make confusing things like the water cycle, evaporation, condensation, hibernation, and migration understandable for young children. It shows goes animals use their natural instincts to survive through the winter season such as changing hair color and digging nests for warmth. This was an informational text so I could assume boys would find it more fun than girls would in my classroom.

Lots of good information here on migration, hibernation, and other tactics that animals use to make it through winter. Good illustrations, too. I thought it might be a little dense for my three-year-old, but he seemed to follow along just fine. The other books we've read recently have hopefully given him a framework for some of this more detailed information.

...of course, it might just have gone in one ear and out the other- there's no good way for me to find out!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this to my level 1-2ers. I thought it was a wonderful intro. We doubled this with Animals in Winter and it made for a sensational study/review.
