as a book aiming towards educating teens about Chinese learning (especially writing), the book does an amazing job dissecting and explaining the various aspects of the subject. Comparing to Sophie's World, 文心 does a much better job infusing the storyline into the supposed "lessons," meanwhile utilizing its historical context to its advantage. Granted, the book reveals several societal/political background when it regarded it honorable for 大文 to leave school and join the labor force and other similar instances, but in general the book successfully fulfilled its goal and made Chinese writing/Chinese in general easier and more interesting, especially when people barely get an education experience as nearly interesting and down-to-earth as this.
