Process of Praise

Rate this book

Lewis Bryon was born June 6, 1986 in Seattle, Washington. He was saved and established in the Church in the year of 2000. He has become an active servant of God through writing and dance ministry with the Tribe of Levites. He is a son of Berean Love & Bible Fellowship, which is under the leadership of Dr. Edward Donalson, III. He is pursuing a Masters Degree in English with dreams of administering healing, inspiration, and encouragement to men, young people, and the brokenhearted. Mike Hickey instructed my first poetry class in Fall 2007. He suggested to his students that every poem be read on different days and hours so we could experience the fullness of each work and its maker. I believe he would love for us to read poetry in different seasons of nature and life alike. I filtered this counsel through "They see the glory, but they don't know the story. " In other words, trophies are seen, but journeys are invisible. In a world that demands results, the process is truly more valuable than what it produces. I believe the closer a writer is to his writing, the closer it is to his reader. So, as a result of life, a gift from God, and several encouraging relationships, before you is four years of favorites. This book is about growth and process, so few revisions were made. With the exception of five poems, each has the year, month, day, hour, and day of the week they were first written. I anticipate the disclosure of these details will complement and make evident and personally useful the growth of a man through the progression of this book. The aim of this book is to impassion you with the dare to dream. Welcome to my process of praise.

Everyone's life processes differ, but I find it amazing how someone else's verbiage about his personal experience can give me the words to describe experiences of my own that I couldn't quite describe before. I couldn't rush through the book because I actually had to stop and think, or stop and feel, sometimes. I was deeply moved, and to me, that's one of the greatest successes of poetry and literature--to remind the reader that he or she is still living, breathing, and conscious enough to be moved.

This is my own book, but there are some objective things I will note. Virtually every poem in this book has the month, day, year, time of day, and day of the week it was published. As a result, it's easy for me to choose how I want to approach reading it. My only issue, and regret, is not having a table of contents in the beginning. Still, it makes for a simple enough format to work with.
