This tender and moving story about growing up and expanding friendships displays the beautiful relationship between mother and child. Snowy and his mommy are best friends; they do everything together, just the two of them. Little by little, Snowy is growing up, and one day mommy teaches him a new game: making friends. Brave and full of heart, Snowy sets off in hopes someone might like to be his friend. Along the way he meets a cast of many strangers, including an unfriendly sea gull, a playful seal, a bunch of quarreling penguins, an old walrus, and a young polar bear. The soft fleece coating on Snowy and his new-found friend, and the many comforting illustrations of this gentle story convey the true meaning of friendship and love.
This book was about a young polar bear named Snowy. It's just Snowy and his mommy going through life until one day his mommy suggests that he go find a friend. Snowy goes around to multiple different animals and introduces himself and asks to be friends. Along the way he meets a sea gull, seal, penguins, and a walrus, however, none of them are good fits for Snowy. When Snowy is resting on a patch of snow, another polar bear comes along and they become best friends and they play together all day.
A major theme of this book was friendship. It shows readers how you should find people who you have things in common with and not just settle for people who are near you. It portrays what a true friend should be like.
Personally, I wasn't the biggest fan of this book. I thought it was cute and good for a child, however, I didn't see much of a lesson for a child. Yes it teaches you about friendship but not completely. It's very vague and seems almost discriminatory. I think there are other books that children could read to get a better understanding of friendship and learn more about life.
I would recommend this book for someone who is looking for a very very simple book. It doesn't have much substance to it and I think there are better options out there. However, it was cute and would be good for a very young child to learn the basis of friendship. It shows a child that they must detach from their parent and venture out of their own to find friends like them.
