A tiny bit dated, but because it's gradually revealed that it's a myth, it's also timeless. I didn't know Sachs wrote picture-books - I only requested this from my library because I had just discovered the author and wanted more by her. Now I have to find Matt's Mitt which might be even better, considering as they were then released as an omnibus: Matt's Mitt and Fleet Footed Florence.

3.5 stars rounded up because even though I'm not interested in baseball I would have loved this when I was a girl.

Baseball player Matt names all his sons after baseball stars. His daughter he names Florence in hopes that she will become a nurse, but she turns out to be the one who inherits his athletic talent.
