The Valley of the Eagles

Juliet went to Spain and got involved with two men: Harry who was nice and calm and kind, and who loved her; Miguel who was like his mountain home - wild and dark and stormy.

Yet might not the ease she felt with Harry be all too much like the situation between brother and sister? And the difficulties she experienced with Miguel be a guard against deeper feelings?

I have read literally a dozen books with this same general theme. This is the most boring. It doesn't even merit my active dislike, which would earn it a single star.

A very interesting story with a twist that you don't typically find in category romances.

A young woman is befriended by two families while she is vacationing in Spain. The one family has deep dark secrets and a magnificent home filled with dreary relatives, except for the young vivacious sister who befriends the heroine. The other family is warm, generous and the heroine is naturally drawn to them but always feels compelled to return and stay in the dreary home out of a sense of loyalty to the younger sister.

There is very little romance, but the author did a great job throughout the story in building tension that culminated in jealousy and betrayal.

The ending was a bit rushed and it was a bit too long for my taste, thus only 2 stars. However, definitely worth reading.

A sort of 1950's Georgette Heyer in Spain with all the fun squeezed out.

The heroine is very likeable and you can feel her swing from the OM (who is lovely) to the Hero (who is conflicted). It's an unusual romance in that the hero is rich, etc, but has people who have pushed him around. His family (with the exception of his sweet sister) are horrific. The OW is but a reference. It has a slightly saga feel to it, but a nice ending.
