Low confidence can be caused by a myriad of reasons, and this book doesn't really give you much to go on with addressing those issues - which makes it is useful, though it has it's limitations. I think it's best suited to someone with medium to low confidence who could do with strengthening it - someone with no confidence at all and terrible anxiety may struggle with the activities in this book until they address that particular Achilles heel.

However, as someone who has conquered the majority of their anxiety issues, this book was a great stepping stone for after that and I found it incredibly helpful reading for giving me confidence about job interviews and interactions with people in authority; these being things I've always struggled with. My personal choice points from the book were the advice on assertiveness, handling conflict, standing up for yourself and dealing with change.

There were many activities in the book that I found helpful, and in general, I'd recommend the book to someone wanting to become more confident, however if you are more of an anxious type I'd suggest a book on anxiety first.

This book only covers how to make yourself appear more confident, and says nothing about addressing the underlying issues that may cause a person to have a low confidence. I assume that their aim is to change a person from the outside in, meaning that if the person appears more confident, this will filter through and eventually make the person more confident. However, I feel that it is better to rather address the underlying issues, which may improve a range of other issues for the person, and ultimately improves confidence as a side effect. For example, address the self esteem or self-efficacy issues within the person which may improve overall performance at work, rather than a superficial characteristic of looking more confident on the outside.

I'm going to stop reading these books on confidence, I don't think I need help as much as I think I do :)
