God Was Here and I Was Out to Lunch

Rate this book
Explores how, due to our rigid preoccupation with our busy-ness and routines, we fail to sense or appreciate the presence of God all around us; consequently, we miss out on the chance to tap in to common sense, we miss out on the chance to love God and others, and we miss out on the chance to connect with Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. In fifteen chapters, Moore highlights hallmarks of the Christian faith that are essential and life-giving for all persons, and which can be ours if only we will learn to recognize God’s majesty when it is near and open our lives to the change God offers. 15 chapters with a study guide. Appropriate for individual or group use.

I've enjoyed several inspirational Christian books, but this one sticks with me more than most. The reading is quick and informative, and the stories are interesting and help illustrate the point being made. Thoroughly enjoyable and inspirational, a book I will return to again and again.

Each chapter is unique and like a mini sermon so this little book was, for me, half boring half engaging. Not what I expected - considering the title I expected a light hearted, humorous read. Not that I'm disappointed! I appreciate that Pastor Moore weaves scripture throughout each lesson and like how he emphasizes each with an easy three-point appplication.

James W. Moore is one of a handful of pastors who can write a book without coming across as pompous. His ability to apply humor to the Christian message he presents is priceless. Like all of his books, this compilation of sermons should not be missed.

Study I did with Mary through FUMC. Loads of true stories and how they relate to the Bible and missing God in our hectic, self centered life. I will keep this one to read again and again!
