Just call me...Rita: Book 1984 was one of the first books I ever tried to request via PRWeb. The plot sounded somewhat interesting: transplant from Canada now living in LA, getting sucked into the sex, drugs, and rock & roll life back in the 1980s. The story is told via diary entries, which should allow for some really in-depth views and opinions.
When I received my copy, it kept looking at me, begging to be read. I wanted to devote some good attention to it, so I delayed starting it for a little while. And then, I wish I hadn't.
The book is literally a daily entry, as in 365 days, spanning from January 1, 1984 through December 31st. And while I admit that my life tends to be a lot of the same thing from day to day, so was this. And that did not make for entertaining reading.
Also detracting from a potentially good story is a lot of "ghetto talk" for lack of a better descriptive phrase. I have been known to swear like a sailor, but there is a time and place for everything. I know that it was part of the character, but it was a little much. Though, I did learn some colorful new phrases.
I had a lot of difficulty reading about everyone screwing each other, taking different drugs, and drinking as much as possible. It made my liver and certain orifices hurt just thinking about it all. There just didn't seem to be much of a plot, other than Rita's frustration with her rock star-wannabe hubby and doing anything she could to get back at him, while simultaneously getting tanked up as often as possible and literally screwing anything. (I will never be able to eat Jimmy Dean again.)
For some people, this book is going to be a treat. I think of those who enjoy the trashier side of reality TV, such as Real Housewives and all of those other ones that have catty, bitchy bleached blondes with horrific manicures, making up reasons to scream at and cat fight with each other. It has just never been my style of entertainment, and I couldn't even complete the book. I did sneak peeks at the last few pages, to see if anything changes throughout the story, but really it doesn't. I fear that there will be a follow-up for the year 1985, but I will leave that to the rest of you to read and review.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Okay, this book is totally different from your average titles. It reads like a diary with actual dates and places but nothing like your regular chicklit novels, trust me. Flashback to the 80's, a woman scorn or so Rita, the main character likes to believe. Constantly planning and scheming, written in "slang" form to give it a realistic appeal and the storyline is very relatable. There's profanity but you won't even notice cause you'll be too busy laughing out loud. I sometimes think of book's plots & catch phrases & still find myself chuckling. Life of a 21 year old told in raw honesty and to the point. The book is really worth a read if you feel down or had a bad day, pick up a copy and can guarantee you'll forget all about your problems. Hey,afterall, laughter is great medicine.

I didn't know what to expect when i received Just call me..Rita Book 1984 by JD Rosy Having never heard of author or book, but i was excited to dive in and find out all about this disturbed young girl Rita and read about her life.
I wish i could say i loved it. I can't even tell you much about it, since i only managed to read thirty some pages and just had to give up.
I found the myriad of characters on the first few pages and the constant slang terms off putting.
Set in the 80's it shows Rita's decadent lifestyle, i wished i could have stuck with it, i've subsequently read some good reviews on it, but it's just one book that wasn't for me. I'd never not recommend a book, i think it's always up to the individual reader to make their own choices, if you like the synopsis then give it a go.
Rated: DNF.

This book was supposed to be reviews for a blog. I really tried to read this book. I really tried to get into the storyline. I got 30 days into the diary and hated it. I just couldn't make myself pick up this book to read it. I disliked the heroine and the secondary characters were not strong enough to make me want to finish the book to see if it would get better, which is what I normally try to do. I actually sent a note to the publisher telling them that I did not want to review this book because I didn't think I could give them the kind that they would be pleased to see. I think this is the only book that has ever had this effect on me. I'm giving this one star because there is no place to note that books are not even worth one star to a reader.

This book is more a diary style read, with lots of shock value if you're into that, however, it is humorous if you can get past the main character, Rita who's quite the narcissist. I found this book very different than main stream and quite raw since I lived through the 80's decade, it did bring back a few good memories. I also believe guys would like this since it's a hot female's honest depiction of every day life. I liked it and hopefully JD Rosy will put out the next series.

Well, if you enjoy reality, this diary will entertain you for the most part. I wasn’t too sure reading a fictionalized memoir, however, it gets to the point. Rita, the main character is quite the narcissist who can’t seem to come to grips with her constant hunger for revenge. This is a diary series unlike most, the slang grammar is apparent and the situations she gets into are realistic, even humorous. Some parts are laugh out loud funny. What can you expect from a 20 year old back in the 80’s?

I like anything 80's, this book which is actually a diary series, is certainly that & then some. It's so not your average book, written in diary format, Rita, main character, is one vain bitch. It's also very funny & relatable, giving the female version of the 80's. If you want to read something different & entertaining, or kill a few hours, I definitely recommend Just call me Rita - Book 1983.
