About the author

Warren W. Wiersbe, former pastor of the Moody Church and general director of Back to the Bible, has traveled widely as a Bible teacher and conference speaker. Because of his encouragement to those in ministry, Dr. Wiersbe is often referred to as 'the pastor's pastor.' He has ministered in churches and conferences throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Central and South America, and Europe. Dr. Wiersbe has written over 150 books, including the popular BE series of commentaries on every book of the Bible, which has sold more than four million copies. At the 2002 Christian Booksellers Convention, he was awarded the Gold Medallion Lifetime Achievement Award by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Dr. Wiersbe and his wife, Betty, live in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Short chapters with rather simple truths presented by someone who served God for many years. Although I thought this was a book dedicated to the title (it wasn't), I still enjoyed the 30 short chapters with varying biblical truths from this well-known author.

There were a few chapters that were so good, I plan on printing them and sharing with those who will benefit from that particular truth.

I found this to be very light & easy reading. I didn't find anything wrong with the book until I got to the last chapter on page 147 where the authors states 'God cannot save you.' I found this statement to be contradictory to the scriptures which clearly tells us it's God that saves us, it's not of ourselves. I believe the author ascribes to a 'synergistic' viewpoint that aligns itself with Arminianism whereas I believe salvation is monergistic in that God initiates in every way, & we only respond because God enables us to do so. Apart from this one issue the book is encouraging & has many, many good things to offer on helps for the Christian life.

Great book overall, some good nuggets and way ahead of its time that it was written. Only giving it four stars cause it felt like a lot of the main message was lost in the later chapters. Felt like he picked some good topics but it felt disconnected from the first half. I have no issues with those topics they were really solid, it just felt disconnected.

This book by Warren Wiersbe is a nice little volume of 30 essays of 3-4 pages each, which makes them accessible. The book is subtitled learning to slow down and live. Some of the essays fit that description and some seemed very much unrelated. I was disappointed by the lack of a clear thread running throughout. On the other hand, this is an easy read from a good communicator. I particularly liked the essays God Isn't In a Hurry, Wanted: Hinge People, and Dig Up Those Bitter Roots. On the whole, keeping those things in view, it is a good little volume.

A great little book containing doctrinal and practical truths. The only problem with the book is that there is no Scripture Index or General Index in the book. Unless you have a great memory, you will not remember the information learned from the book.

this book took me a while to read, not bc of the content, just bc I was slacking and reading other books alongside this one! However, this was a really good book! Definitely one I will go back through and read again. It’s just a book that urges readers to go back to the heart of the Lord for His people and remember His heart for us and stop striving. to answer His call, do His will, and nothing more than what He’s leading us to and nothing less than what He’s leading us and calling us to in our personal lives as well as the general call of Christians to love and serve. Fire nuggets throughout the book! Really enjoyed it! Praise God!

Kind of a general addressing of problem areas in the modern, western church. Mostly it was well worth the read--some chapters were more "on" than others, but that's not that unusual. Many important thoughts. A good spur to greater devotion. I particularly enjoyed the first few chapters that focused on patience, waiting on God, etc. And then the chapter on the "Root of bitterness" was really insightful. Not a book that revolutionizes my walk, but worth the read.

Warren Wiersbe agrees with the Longstaff hymn by declaring, "It still takes time to be holy." Being my first full book to read from this author, I was surprised by his reach into the minds of Moody, Spurgeon, Chesterton and Morgan to substantiate his thoughts. This is a very good book, especially for anyone believing that God is growing impatient with their sincere desire to grow in faith and love.

A 3.5. I will bump up to 4. I am a huge Wiersbe fan. Love his commentaries. This book contains so much good information. My problem is, I was not sure what the theme or the direction of the book Wiersbe was trying to take with it. In some ways, you can argue it follows the same theme, but honestly, I felt it was a lot of good stuff thrown together. Worth the read, lots of insights on many topics, should be accessible in terms of depth to most, but could have been compiled better.

I don't think this was what I was really looking for but it was a good read regardless. It covers a wide spectrum and many aspects of life so there is probably a little something to take home for everyone. I think there is good reminders in this book on how to find peace in God and focus on the right things instead of being weighed down by things of little value.

it should make people mad that there are so many others like warren wiersbe trying to make money off the uneduated and vulnerable people that were brainwashed into believing there is a god. There is no god, there is no proof, it is just stories like alice in wonderland. people need to start thinking

I found that you must read this book slowly to truly appreciate the wisdom in it. There was not a strong theme throughout the entire book, and each chapter / essay was very much distinct. I agreed with much of everything, but near the end there were a couple of chapters that included information that I felt was based more on preference rather than scripture.
