My copy is the first paperback edition published in 1983 but it appears to have gone through six impressions in hardback by 1980. It is however copyrighted by the author in 1954 !
The above is incorrect !
My original review was for a paperback I had, however I've now found a hardback copy when it was reprinted in 1998 as part of a series of cookery book reprints. In this it states the original print was 1954.
The era of relatively cheap paperback cookery books is long past, Penguin was without doubt the most prolific publisher from the '50's to the late '70's, although this is by Andre Deutsch.
This opened the avenue for a a wide range of cookery books on all sorts of subjects and cuisines.
Now with most cookery books at £20 and upwards, mostly riding off the backs of a TV series, that is not so much the case.
This is a fairly basic cookbook on a country that's cuisine is not much written about. I think it's generally assumed that there is no difference between Austrian and German cuisine.
For anyone interested in Austrian dishes there are not that many around so if you see one second hand buy it.
