Clinical Problems in Medicine and Surgery provides a comprehensive selection of important medical and surgical scenarios. The reader is taken through 66 case histories step by step and is asked to interpret a broad range of medical data. Most of the clinical problems are accompanied by illustrations, which include cardiographs, radiographs, clinical and pathological photographs. In addition to detailed questions and answers, a commentary is provided that highlights the important issues of each case, as well as a guide to further topics of study.
As a preface, I love case studies as a mode for learning. If you don't, this is not the book for you. If you are, then these are some fantastic case studies with a practical, made-for-learning layout. As the book walks you through the studies, it asks you questions that it answers on subsequent pages. This is nice because it prevents the peaking that, admit it, we all do when the answers are presented immediately below a question. If used correctly, this is especially helpful for learning how to build a basic differential and what tests to order when given a certain clinical presentation.
