I did not finish this book. I did not find it entertaining or amusing. The descriptions of the people in his workshops were not deep or insightful. I did not understand what the point of reading it was.

This delightful book of sketches (short stories) was written in 2003, but read during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was just the diversion I needed. Don is a renowned watercolor artist and instructor, but is a surprisingly wonderful writer as well.

My wife read this book to me as we drove from St. George, Utah to Dana Point, California. It is a delightful collection of stories from the author's personal experiences as an art workshop instructor. The stories will be of particular interest to artists, but they also have a universal appeal to non-artists such as myself.

Rough Sketches by Don Andrews, has only one other review. I hope his watercolor paintings are selling better than this book. Normally, I get bored with a book of short stories, but Don has characters that have clarity and humor that not only comes across in his writing, but also in his paintings. His watercolors are the best I've ever seen.
