About the author

Maxim Jakubowski is a crime, erotic, and science fiction writer and critic.

Jakubowski was born in England by Russian-British and Polish parents, but raised in France. Jakubowski has also lived in Italy and has travelled extensively. Jakubowski edited the science fiction anthology Twenty Houses of the Zodiac in 1979 for the 37th World Science Fiction Convention (Seacon '79) in Brighton. He also contributed a short story to that anthology. He has now published almost 100 books in a variety of areas.

He has worked in book publishing for many years, which he left to open the Murder One bookshop[1], the UK's first specialist crime and mystery bookstore. He contributes to a variety of newspapers and magazines, and was for eight years the crime columnist for Time Out and, presently, since 2000, the crime reviewer for The Guardian. He is also the literary director of London's Crime Scene Festival and a consultant for the International Mystery Film Festival, Noir in Fest, held annually in Courmayeur, Italy. He is one the leading editors in the crime and mystery and erotica field, in which he has published many major anthologies.

His novels include "It's You That I Want To Kiss", "Because She Thought She Loved Me", "The State Of Montana", "On Tenderness Express", "Kiss me Sadly" and "Confessions of a Romantic Pornographer". His short story collections are "Life in the World of Women", "Fools for Lust" and the collaborative "American Casanova". He is a regular broadcaster on British TV and radio and was recently voted the 4th Sexiest Writer of 2,007 on a poll on the crimespace website.

Questo volume, il cui unico difetto è il formato tascabile piuttosto inadatto a contenuti fotografici, antologizza nelle sue 450 pagine diverse decine di fotografi e fotografe che in modi diversi si dedicano alla fotografia erotica. Spesso le foto sono interessanti, qualche volta anche molto belle. Il fatto è che probabilmente è il concetto di “fotografia erotica” che oggi, dopo l’avvento del digitale e di internet, avrebbe bisogno di essere in qualche modo ripensato radicalmente. Infatti non sempre, anzi abbastanza raramente queste foto possono essere definite erotiche, ovvero in qualche modo eccitanti; più spesso la loro bellezza, piuttosto che sensuale, è puramente estetica. In altre parole, il corpo nudo (quasi esclusivamente femminile; anche le non poche fotografe qui antologizzate non transigono da questo dogma) viene utilizzato come elemento stilistico, assieme alle architetture, agli impianti scenografici, alla luce e alle ombre per produrre un risultato esteticamente importante, quasi pittorico. Frequentemente, più bello che eccitante (ovvero erotico). Da un lato probabilmente è finita l’epoca degli scatti singoli e curatissimi. L’immagine erotica oggi come oggi non è più pensabile come “pezzo unico”; difficilmente può prescindere dalle grandi serie di foto - anche duecento, trecento - che determinati siti, più o meno "glamour" o espliciti, dedicano allo stesso soggetto (modella, coppia “in azione” o altro) finendo in qualche modo per raccontare una storia, e talvolta catturando, nelle maglie della serialità commerciale, anche un’inaspettata qualità e bellezza. Dall’altro lato viene il sospetto che il vero erotismo fotografico si nasconda soprattutto nella produzione amatoriale, nelle milionate di foto che amanti, amici o appassionati si scattano riservatamente in maniera più o meno maliziosa e senz'altro fine oltre a quello di eccitare ed eccitarsi, che abitualmente scorrono in canali sotterranei e nascosti ma, ogni tanto, inaspettatamente, zampillano alla luce e agli occhi del navigatore più “navigato” regalando istanti di erotismo a cui nemmeno il fotografo più rinomato sarebbe mai potuto arrivare...

Excellent selection of photos. Nice intros to each photographer and their inspirations. I wish it had a bit more about photography techniques but I guess it's more of a coffee table book (for certain environments) than photography technique.
