This up-to-date repair manual includes step-by-step instructions for complete assembly, disassembly, adjustment, and maintenance of American, European, and Japanese bicycles
It's not as though I've read it cover to cover, it's a reference book, you just don't do that. Anyway I just got it the other day, although I have had the previous edition for a while (same title, just without the word 'new' in it for obvious reasons).
This is a great resource for the budding bike mechanic and rider and afficionado. The material is a bit behind the times sure (you can ignore the prices listed for a start), the second edition here was published in 87, the first in 72. Even the first edition however has been very useful to me since I tend to be among the guts of older machines and anyway, things haven't changed all that much and this book will give you a good basis for discovering the things that have. I overhauled a coaster brake hub using this to guide me. Handy dandy exploded diagrams and nice step by step instructions with a lot of photos. Things are even more better (yeah, I know) in the NEW version. More information in the old sections and some new stuff about new parts and just things that the author realized he forgot in the first edition. Much pleased am I to note inclusion of the Sturmey-Archer 5 speed hub, since I have one of those I'm hoping will work once I get going on it.
